You can get to Beacon Hill from all of Boston's subway lines (MBTA). If you're on the Red Line, get off at the Charles/MGH Station at the intersection of Charles and Cambridge streets - our two major shopping areas. The Park Street Station on the Green Line and the Red Line gets you to the Boston Common. It is a five-minute walk up to Beacon Hill toward the State House with its golden dome. On the Orange Line, the closest station is Downtown Crossing. From there walk one block toward the Boston Common and the State House. The Government Center stop on both the Blue and the Green Lines will let you off at City Hall. Walk away from City Hall and head to your right down Cambridge Street. Any of the side streets on your left will take you into Beacon Hill.
If you are driving, leave your car in one of the parking garages that lie on the perimeter of the Hill. Center Plaza Garage has entrances on Somerset Street and Cambridge/Tremont Streets. The Boston Common Garage is on Charles Street between the Common and the Public Garden. There are few places for visitors to park on Beacon Hill, but the neighborhood is easy to reach by foot from any downtown location. If you're coming from outside Boston, take the Boston commuter rail or subway system, which we call the "T". Check www.MBTA.com for the T station closest to you. Many of these stations have parking available. |
